Soft Palate Coblation
What is
Soft Palate Coblation?
Soft palate Coblation, performed at ENT of Georgia South, is a quick, in-office procedure that takes less than 30 minutes to perform. Soft palate Coblation shrinks and stiffens the soft palate in order to minimize snoring. Coblation is an advanced technology that involves the use of gentle radiofrequency energy to quickly and safely dissolve target tissue, leaving surrounding healthy tissue intact.
How Does
Soft Palate Coblation Work?
The procedure involves the use of radiofrequency energy to form channels in the tissue of the soft palate. The body’s natural response is to form scar tissue in these channels, which stiffens the soft palate. Patients can typically return to work immediately. Within one to four weeks, most patients experience a significant reduction in vibrations and snoring intensity.
What are the advantages of soft palate Coblation?
-
Minimal patient discomfort
-
Quick and easy recovery
-
Performed using only local anesthetic
-
Most patients can resume normal diet and activity the same day
What results can I expect from
Coblation of the soft palate?
Results from clinical studies confirm that use of radiofrequency Coblation technology to reduce and stiffen the soft palate reduces snoring in patients within one to four weeks of the procedure.
Clinical studies of soft palate Coblation have shown:
- Significant improvement in Epworth Sleepiness Scales at both the 3 and 9.5- month post-operative visits
- Significant reduction in snoring reported by both the patient and bed partner at the 3 and 9.5 month-post-operative visits
- Continual symptomatic improvement over time due to tissue shrinkage as a result of submucosal lesion being formed
- Immediate volumetric palatal tissue removal
