Good hearing is critical for interactions with others and maintenance of relationships. The evaluation of ear, hearing and balance is very complex, since even a relatively innocent symptom, like minor fullness in the ear, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), ear drainage, or dizziness may signify a much greater problem. Hearing loss may be a result of exposure to loud noise but may also indicate a variety of other conditions. Patients with ear, hearing and balance problems may expect a thorough evaluation that includes conversation about the history of the presenting problem, micro-otoscopy of the ears, hearing evaluation by one of our doctors of audiology, evaluation of balance problems using bedside tests and laboratory tests when indicated. Imaging studies like CT and/or MRI may be needed as well. Interpretation of all obtained information will help in identifying the real cause of a patient's problem, that will then be appropriately addressed by the finest team of specialists available.
